Generator sets for cogeneration

Sustainable and efficient energy cogeneration

Generator sets for cogeneration

We design custom cogeneration generator sets that provide energy efficiency and thermal utilization. The high efficiency of cogeneration plants or sets is due to the use of the heat generated as a byproduct of electricity generation, thus saving the system's primary energy. By producing electricity and consuming it on the same site, energy loss is avoided, achieving greater overall energy efficiency.

Generator sets for interconnected cogeneration

We offer solutions for interconnected cogeneration, where generator sets operate in parallel with the electrical grid. These systems allow for continuous optimization of energy performance, with maximum reliability and control. In industrial applications or in high-consumption buildings, this type of system ensures efficiency, stability, and reduction of operational costs.

One group for various types of energy

Cogeneration means the simultaneous production of two or more types of energy in a single integrated process. Typically, electricity and heat are produced, although it can also be mechanical energy, heat, and/or cooling. Cogeneration has applications both in industrial settings—heat-intensive and electro-intensive processes—and in large buildings where heat can be used for heating, cooling through absorption systems, or for obtaining domestic hot water. It is common in shopping centers, hospitals, hotels, or administrative complexes.

Maximum performance

In a cogeneration process using an internal combustion reciprocating engine, the efficiencies obtained from the fuel exceed 80% compared to the 35% efficiency obtained purely in mechanical energy (which can later be transformed into electrical energy). Cogeneration systems with generator sets thus significantly improve the efficiency of the installation.

Maximum efficiency

These types of systems, smaller compared to large combined cycles (gas and steam turbine with efficiencies of 65%), are increasingly used. Their high efficiency and ability to respond to basic energy needs (electricity, heat, and cooling) near the point of consumption avoid large installations and energy transport losses, increasing overall efficiency.

Real example: industrial cogeneration system

One of our outstanding projects involved the development of a generator set for industrial cogeneration at a campsite in the Illas Ons. The system was designed to maximize electrical and thermal production, powered by diesel, and integrated with the campsite's heat network. The result: a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions.

Development of a cogeneration group

Based on the client's installation energy needs, the calculation and sizing of each and every one of the main components of the equipment are carried out: engine, alternator, heat exchanger for engine cooling, heat exchanger for engine exhaust gases, pumping systems, operation and management controller, all with the aim of maximizing the energy efficiency of the fuel used.

Depending on the energy needs, more priority is given to electrical generation through the alternator, low-temperature heat generation from the engine, or high-temperature heat generation obtained from the exhaust gases.
