What is Greenesal?
20 Enero - 2026
Climate change is scientific evidence and a global problem that cannot be solved without everybody’s involvement. Therefore, on the road to sustainability individual initiatives matter as long as they are put into practice.
What is Greenesal?
Greenesal consists of materializing a commitment through a set of actions based on the knowledge, responsibility and experience accumulated at Genesal Energy after almost 30 years in the energy industry market.
In our quest for sustainability, we go beyond and we move to action in the shape of specific short, medium and long-term initiatives. Greenesal encompasses that ambitious and meditated program born to change things.
Greenesal is, in a way, the heart of Genesal Energy and it’s fed by two main arteries: the Energy Transition Plan and the Energy Transition Professorship created hand in hand with the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). Both areas are really focused on R & D & I because knowledge allows the development and implementation of sustainable solutions for quality energy projects.
Despite being focused on different areas, industry and education, the Energy Transition Plan and the Professorship pursue the same aim: boost clean energy, drive up the usage of renewable energy and reduce carbon footprint, both in our company and our customers’ or society in general.
Nonetheless, we are aware that achieving zero emissions is not an easy task.
Genesal Energy’s Energy Transition Plan, explained.
General’s Energy Transition Plan is a set of measures and actions aimed to achieve better energy efficiency in all the projects we develop both nationally and internationally. The objective is that our generator sets and distributed energy in general become more environmentally friendly.
The Energy Transition Plan is in full swing and we put its ideas to work at corporate, manufacturing and sectoral levels. The philosophy is clear: more effort, less impact. Some of its action lines are:
All-in with green hydrogen
we go for the Hydrogenset concept which comprises those energy generation solutions using hydrogen as fuel in any of its forms and states. Hydrogen is the simplest and lightest element of the periodic table, with abundant supply in the Earth and the Universe… the new green gold. It is the future because it opens up new, zero-impact, sustainable energy generation possibilities.
We support the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals
We have a strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda approved by the UN in 2015. The agenda aims to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development by 2030 worldwide. It includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets.
We embrace twelve of those seventeen SDGs and we have established specific actions to comply with each one of them.
We certify our advances
We have the Carbon Footprint Assessment Seal as proof of our commitment to SDG 13 (Climate Action Network) and the Environmental Management Systems Certification (ISO 14001) that maps out the environmental aspects of our activity.
We apply more efficient and sustainable solutions in our manufacturing processes.
We lead by example reducing our carbon footprint
Less fuel. We reduced a 16% of the fuel consumption of our vehicle fleet. From 2380 litres of fossil fuel spent per million Euros of turnover in 2019 to 2005 litres per million € in 2021. The cleanest energy is the one we don’t use.
We reduced a 96% of the paper/cardboard waste generation, a 94% of plastic and an 85% of scrap metal.
We have the first integrated photovoltaic building façade in Galicia.
A total of 126 photovoltaic panels cover the main façade of Genesal Energy HQ in Bergondo (A Coruña). Producing 57,33 kW, they prevent more than 20 tons of CO2 of being released into the atmosphere. This is part of the first phase of our OGGY Energy Management project.
Energy Transition Professorship USC-Genesal Energy
We have shaped a thrilling project merging industry and university. The Genesal Energy-USC Energy Transition Professorship was launched back in early 2022.
The great aims of this educational initiative are investigation, knowledge-sharing and the promotion of teaching of all things related to the energy transition and specially every aspect of the distributed energy systems. Namely:
- Promoting and taking part in R & D & I projects.
- Developing distributed energy systems based on zero-emissions fuels and creating awareness of the energy transition improvements.
- Promoting Public Private Partnerships.
- Call and fund Prizes for projects, ideas contests, and degrees & masters’ graduates.
- Offering work placements and external internships at Genesal Energy.
- Organising specialisation courses, conferences, seminars, expert-gatherings and visits to companies & institutions involved in the Professorship syllabus.
- Enabling job placements for the USC students via participation in the activities organized by the Professorship.
Through these two pillars, investigation and education, we are convinced that building a fairer world is possible. We are reducing our activity’s carbon footprint and committing to renewable energy. We are hopeful, we dream big.
